GRID INTERTIE, STAND ALONE AND HYBRID SYSTEMS
There are a lot of options available when designing renewable energy systems, choosing the right one for you is very important. The first step is to determine what power sources are available and to what extent they can be used. Here you can find out about different systems and how different power sources integrate together.
GRID TIE INTERFACE SYSTEMS
Grid tie interface (GTI) systems are the solution for homes or business that are already connected to the utility company. GTI systems are the least expsensive and most maintainace free systems available. By utilizing the grid interface you can eliminate the need for batteries and other control components. The system consists of solar panels and an inverter, that’s it! These systems take up minimal space and can be installed outdoors, roof mount or ground mount. Not only that GTI systems pay themselves off in as little as ten years.
STAND ALONE SYSTEMS
Stand alone systems power remote homes and villages, telecommuincations sites, radio stations, water pumping and more. Stand alone systems have lots of componets and limitless custom options. With proper design and installation, performance can be maximized while keeping the cost at a minimum. Stand alone systems can take up quite a bit of space. Neccesary components, such as batteries, require their own sealed container or room. Often times a stand alone system will have multiple charge sources such as photovoltaics, wind generators, hydro power and, in some cases, a gas powered generator.
HYBRID SYSTEMS
Hybrid systems combine the best of both worlds, grid intertie and stand alone. A system that can sell power back the utility company as well as power your whole house without grid power. It is like a solar powered uninteruptable power source for your house or business that pays for itself. This type of sytstem has all the components of a stand alone system with a grid tie interface.
