NEW MEXICO’S LARGEST SOLAR ARRAY! INSTALLING THE SUN TRACKING SYSTEM!

    July 15th 2009

This week, Paradise Power has been installing the drive gears on the single axis tracking system at UNM-Taos. The drive gears are essential for the tracking system to work. Basically, the panels will follow the course of the sun throughout the day. We have also begun welding all the parts.

In the coming week, we will be mounting panels!

This is a 500kw Solar Electric System on the Klauer Campus of UNM Taos, and is being installed in conjunction with Erickson Construction and American Capital Energy. This array will be comprised of 2,640 panels, utilized on a single axis tracking system. It is the largest, most powerful array in New Mexico to date. The project, funded by Kit Carson Electric Co-op, is the first of several projects that Paradise Power will be installing in Northern New Mexico.

    ... CELEBRITY SOLAR INSTALLATION!
Paradise Power has been chosen to install a solar grid-tie system at a residence in Arroyo Seco. What makes this install special is that the residence belongs to a very famous celebrity!

    ... OFF-GRID SOLUTIONS!
We have been working with off-grid systems since 1979! We thoroughly enjoy assisting D.I.Y.ers set up their own off-grid solutions, as well as troubleshooting and servicing off-grid systems. Currently we have been working on some interesting off-grid systems in Tres Piedras, Star, and The Greater World.

... TIP OF THE WEEK FOR SOLAR OWNERS...
Keep close tabs on your battery.
System components like the battery actually require more maintenance as they get older. Your battery can last long if you take good care of it. Some basic steps to ensure the good working condition of your battery would be:
    • Check your batteries every 30 days!
    • Batteries should be wiped free of all corrosion, dust and dirt frequently.
    • Water the batteries after extended charging.
    • Use distilled water.

    Congress passes Solar Tax Credit!

    October 9th 2008

Congress on Friday passed a solar tax credit that could provide billions in future funding.

The renewable energy Incentive Tax Credit (ITC) bill, which was attached to the larger $700 billion Economic Growth and Financial Stabilization Act of 2008, passed on a 263-171 bipartisan vote, and President George W. Bush swiftly signed the rescue plan into law a few hours later.

The tax credit portion of the law beefs up and extends an expiring tax credit for renewable energy projects. It extends a wind power credit for one year, geothermal and biomass energy credits for two years, and provides incentives to the solar industry -- such as the removal of a $2,000 credit cap for residential solar installations -- for eight years, until 2016.

Other provisions include $800 million for clean energy bonds. The total package is worth $17 billion over eight years.
