Renewable energy does make a difference! Not only does it help our environment by reducing the carbon footprint but it can also make us self sustainable.
Does renewable energy actually give a return on investment?
Yes! The return varies depending on federal and local incentives. The return can be as little as five years or less for commercial in some areas, Here in New Mexico, the returns can be as low as 15 years for residential and under 10 for commercial.
How long does a solar electric system last?
Solar electric systems have a great life expectancy. The life expectancy is 20 years or more, not including batteries. Battery life varies by manufacturer and size. Batteries are available with a 10 year warranty.
Can my house be retrofitted with solar?
Yes! Any home can be retrofitted with solar power as long as you have sunshine.
Do I have to have batteries?
No. As long as you are on the grid you can have a system with no batteries. With a grid interactive system the power company becomes the "battery."
Can I use wind power?
Yes, wind power is a viable source in most areas. If you get wind speeds up to 12mph or more wind might be a great resource. There are also new grid interactive wind generators that are designed for residential neighborhoods.
